Rano Invites Residents to Actively Sort Waste at Home

Jakarta Deputy Governor, Rano Karno reminded and invited residents to actively sort and process waste from home, so that the volume of waste in disposal sites can be reduced.

"Let's bring our trash from home, exchange it through available environmental agents and feel the real benefits of the simple actions we do together," Rano said, on the opening of Jakarta Eco Future Fest 2025 at Cibis Park, Jalan TB Simatupang, Cilandak Timur, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, Thursday (9/25).

Rano explained that Jakarta, as the center of the country's economic activity and operations, still faces significant and significant challenges in sustainable waste management. Approximately 7,500 tons of waste ends up at the Bandar Gebang landfill every day.

This situation emphasizes that waste management can no longer rely only on the government. Active public participation in sorting and processing waste from home is key to maintaining Jakarta's sustainability.

"Maintaining cleanliness by not littering seems simple. People simply need to sort their waste, thereby reducing the volume of waste in landfills," Rano added.

Therefore, Rano appreciated the Jakarta Eco Future Fest 2025, which involved 29 MSMEs and green startups. The event will run until Friday, September 26th.

Head of Jakarta Environmental Agency, Asep Kuswanto explained Jakarta Eco Future Fest 2025 provides a series of eco-talk activities about early warning systems and green living, eco-markets, showcases or exhibitions on the river.

Then, there is a workshop on making interesting crafts from recycled waste by the R&D group. Then also the Garden of Waste and an art installation.

There's also Craft of Treasure, where visitors can bring plastic bottles to exchange for products at the eco-market. The event will also feature an Eco-Future Hunt.

"Hopefully this economic and social exploration will provide education and knowledge about the environment. There will also be several other interesting activities," he stated.
